That don't completely fucking suck in 2008?
I'm talking about bands that are just starting to come out with music now, not bands that have been around for a while and are still putting stuff out.

I can't even think of any bands that have started coming out with music in 2008.

That's just it.
There isn't any new blood. It's all the same. Here's what we need: a new Rock N' Roll martyr. An eccentric weirdo needs to write some songs that don't suck... and then promptly overdose on something.
I don't know.. I just think a lot of new bands are completely without color or character.

I blame it on the progression of Digital Recording. Back when everything was analog, the music had life and substance and a unique sound. Everything now sounds like a version of everyone else and is completely over produced and gimmicked out.

I don't know that I necessarily believe that. I don't think the medium in which music is captured has the ability to limit its creativity. I think we've just hit a dead spot. I've heard some creative fucking music this year. But it isn't the kind of music that gets played on the radio.
Still, up until the past several years, there were bands that would find their way into the mainstream utilizing a sound that people get attached to, and finding a character that people could become consumed with. I don't see how anyone could be consumed with the personality of a band like fucking Fall Out Boy, for example.

No, but the labels have their producer make all the music sound like whatever is selling at the time. Most songs end up a lot different than originally written after being in the studio. Anyway, Digital Recording makes it easier but also makes the same patterns of recording and producing very similar, thus most music turns out all the same. That was my experience when recording in digital and then analog back when I was in a band. Our label put us up in a really nice studio but the purpose seemed more or less to churn out as much music as fast as possible instead of making sure the music was as good as it possibly could have been.

And Fall Out Boy is a pop group and appeal to a different audience than most rockers at heart. The songs are catchy but suck.

the labels have their producer make all the music sound like whatever is selling at the time. This is the key problem with the music business right now. And A&R's are SHIT pretty much.

i listen to local stuff. I can't stand the FM anymore Agreed. This seems to be happening all over the country. Hopefully this will be the start of a serious Independent revolution in music. With iTunes & YouTube (plus countless other internet marketing pots), indie labels can really make great money if they know what they're doing...

I can't remember the last time I heard something new on the radio that really caught my attention. Actually, I can hardly remember the last time I LISTENED to the radio.
I have my bands that I like, and I usually get music recommendations through other fans.
That and I spend a lot of time writing and recording my own stuff, which gives me less time to spend listening to other people's stuff. I enjoy creating more than consuming, I guess.

Haven't turned on my radio in months. I listen off my iPod to jazz, classic rock, classical, and house music.

I actually stopped liking music a while ago. That's not to say I still don't like listening to the old stuff I grew up loving and what not but I haven't purchased or even stolen a new album from anyone in over a year.
